LPI Upates Course Objectives

 LPI has updated its course objectives for LPI Level 1 and Level 2 to keep current with the changes rapid changes in technology. The changes include the addition of objectives covering IPv6, Grub2, the new upstart system initialisation processs and Kernel 3.0. Don't worry though, they have also dropped lilo from the set of objectives for Level 1 so its not all bad news :)

Linux Skills Shortage Drives Up Salaries

Linux skills are in short supply so its no surprise that the shortage is driving up the salaries offered to attract these sort after skills. A report by Dice.com, the number one technology job board, in conjunction with the Linux foundation has confirmed what many Linux system administrators already know.

So with the IED (independent examinations board) results out yesterday and the government matric results out today thousands of  matriculants are going to be deciding what to do with their future. We are pleased to announed the introduction of Linux Professional Intitute (LPI) level 3 training at Jumping Bean. The LPI Level 3 certification consists of a core exam, 301 which covers LDAP (light weight directory access protocol) and then an elective. The possible electives are:

Jumping Bean Wins Tender to Train LPI in East Africa

 Jumping Bean has again been succesful in bidding for the LPI training that is being rolled out across Africa by the [email protected] project of Fossfa. The face-to-face training will be held in Dar es Salaam for two weeks from the 1st to the 12th August with an 4 week online training session preceeding the face-to-face meetup.

Linux administration training of trainers course

The Free and Open Source Software Foundation for Africa (FOSSFA) in cooperation with GIZ (former InWent) Germany, are planning to hold a Linux administration Training of Trainers (LToT) workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Free Creative Commons LPI Level 1 Linux Training Manual Released

Last year (2010), in August, I was engaged as one of the authors to write the recently released, "Linux System Administration, LPI Certification Level 1" manual. The training manual has been released under a creative commons license and is free for users to redsitribute and use.
