Procedure for Taking Exams
Step 1: Register
Regardless of how or where you take your LPI exams, you must register online to receive an LPI identification number first. Failure to complete this step may effect your eligibility for your desired time slot. Also you must provide your LPI ID to the test centers when registering for an exam. Registration is free of charge and can be done on the LPI web site.
Step 2: Choose your program
LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification) is offered at multiple levels. Indicate which exams and level of LPIC you are pursuing.
The Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) program is designed to certify the competency of IT professionals using the Linux operating system and its associated tools. It is designed to be distribution neutral, following the Linux Standard Base and other relevant standards and conventions.
The LPIC program consists of three levels of certification: LPIC-1, LPIC-2 and LPIC-3.
Exam 101: Detailed Objectives
This is a required exam for LPIC-1 or LPI certification Level 1. It covers basic skills for the Linux professional that are common across all distributions of Linux.

Exam 102: Detailed Objectives
This is a required exam for LPI certification Level 1. It covers basic skills for the Linux Professional that are common across all distributions of Linux.

Exam 201: Detailed Objectives
This is a required exam for LPI certification Level 2. It covers advanced skills for the Linux professional that are common across all distributions of Linux.

Exam 301: Detailed Objective
Exam 301 is the sole exam for LPIC-3 designation. It tests skills in authentication, troubleshooting, network integration and capacity planning.

The successful completion of this exam entitles candidates to the specialty designation: LPI 302: Mixed Environments
