In our Linux courses we make use of two books to thoroughly cover the LPI 1 training material and we are often asked to recommend a book for self study for students and exam candidates.

What is cron? Cron allows you to schedule tasks and scripts in a Linux system. You can decide when and who can and cannot run cron. Linux allows you to run any system task through the cron system.

One of the training objectives for LPI certification, covered in our fundamentals of linux training, is familiarity with some common Linux commands.
Adding, modifying and removing users and groups is an important LPI 102 objective with a weighting of 5 and for RH033 Unit 5 - Users, groups and permissions. Luckily it is also a relative easy area to master. This posting covers user management. Group management will be covered in part 2.
One of the training objective on our Linux fundamentals course is to have a conceptual model of how sysfs, udev, hald and dbus fit together. These daemons all build on one another to provide services that for a Linux operating system to allow user space applications to accesses and manage hardware and hardware related events. What is certification?
Certification is defined as "a designation earned by a person to assure qualification to perform a job or task." In other words, certification in a particular field is an endorsement that you possess the requisite competencies to carry out the given tasks.
Disk quotas seems to be a firm favorite with Linux Certification exams and the LPI exams are no exception. Although disk quotas are relatively easy to use and understand, its one of the those pieces of functionality that if your job does not require you to use on a regular basis, it is easy to forget the step needed to actually use quotas on Linux.
